Whiticar 56' Specifications

INTERIOR
Our 56 ft long / 17 ft. beam custom sportfisherman boasts one of the most sophisticated interiors ever attempted at Whiticar’s.  Picasso’s ultra traditional interior uses modern materials, composite panels and other sophisticated techniques to keep the boat light, nimble and responsive.  Patterned from turn of the century classic yacht interiors, details include raised panel teak bulkheads and cabinetry, white painted bead board ceilings with varnished teak beams, and a teak and walnut hardwood floors.  The wooden sink in the master head was painstakingly hand crafted with 12 pie shaped wedges of teak with ebony accent and then shaped by hand to form.  It is sealed with a special epoxy resin and covered with numerous coats of durable clear high solids polyurethane. Other amenities include a sophisticated home theater system with 42" plasma television display, state of the art electronics, low voltage quartz lighting, Connally leather upholstery ( Used in Jaguar and Rolls Royce ), Digital climate control system, and custom refrigeration.

HULL CONSTRUCTION
The hull is a cold molded, epoxy laminated solid mahogany planked hull.  There are three layers of planking on the bottom and two on the hull sides.  In addition to the planking there are stringers (heavy timbers that run fore and aft), bulkheads, additional framing and longitudinals that further reinforce from within.  The entire exterior of the hull as well as interior bilge areas are fiberglass and epoxy encapsulated.  The bottom has layers of kevlar fabric for additional strength.  (Kevlar is used in bullet proof vests)

ENGINES & MACHINERY
The vessel is powered by a pair of Detroit Diesel 12V-183 12 cylinder engines which produce 1,150 hp each.  The drive train includes 3" diameter stainless steel shafts, high speed 28" nibral bronze propellers, and custom made stainless steel rudders.  Top speed is around 37 knots (44 mph) and cruise is an easy 30 knots (35 mph).  Twin aluminum fuel tanks under the cockpit hold 1,350 gallons of diesel fuel.  Fuel consumption is a lean 70 gal/hr. at cruise which yields a range of over 500 nautical miles at 30 knots.  A 20 kw Westerbeke generator with integral sound shield will provide enough power underway for all systems including air-conditioning, refrigeration, hot water, reverse osmosis water making system, battery chargers, and cooking appliances.

BRIDGE & ELECTRONICS
Installed electronics include a Northstar 961XD GPS system ( Global Positioning Systems ), SEA marineVHF radio, 48 mile Furuno FR7252 radar, Datamarine digital depth finder,  and Robertson Autopilot.  The wrap-around console has planned locations for future electronic installations such as a Color Depth Sounder, Single Side Band, and second GPS system.  Electric Teaser Reels are located in a compartment directly over the helmsman’s chair and are concealed from view when not in use by a custom made pocketing sliding door.  An “L” shaped seat is located on the front side of the bridge console and has a lift up lid for rod storage underneath.

OTHER AMENITIES
The boat is designed to fish throughout the Bahamas, Carribean, and South America and is fully outfitted for world cruising.  On board is storage for over 50 custom made rods and reels and cockpit freezer will hold months of bait.  The on board reverse osmosis water making system can make over 1000 gallons a day of fresh water from clean sea water.  There is even a shaved ice machine that continuously makes ice which it pumps all the way to the fish box in the cockpit.  Opposite the freezer in the cockpit under a varnished teak lid you will find a bait prep area and sink with tackle storage underneath.

EVOLUTION IN DESIGN
Whiticar’s designs are always in a state of refinement.  Even though this hull carries many of the same graceful lines and curves as previous models there are subtle changes.  The sheer (where the deck meets the side of the boat) is fuller and there is more flair.  Transom width is slightly wider and there is more tumblehome (roundness) at the aft end.  There is also increased deadrise at the transom for a smoother ride and better high speed handling.

COMPANY HISTORY
Whiticar Boat Works is family owned that has been in business for 53 years and is being run by cousins Jim Dragseth and John Whiticar.  John’s father Curt started the business in 1947 and was a charter boat captain in the then famous Whiticar Fleet prior.  Jim’s father, John Dragseth joined Curt early on and the two Dads shaped and formed the thriving boat yard and boat building facility that exists today.  Whiticar is also in the process of building another facility on Lionel Terrace in South Stuart which will enable them to build larger boats.  According to John Whiticar, the first boat scheduled to be built in the new plant will be a new modern enclosed bridge 76'. The new building will share space with subsidiary Shearwater Marine and will be able to house two boats under construction at the same time.
